The Caretaker Chairman, Afijio West Local Council Development Area, Chief Sunday Akindele said the special attention given to grading of roads in the council was to enable farmers easily transport agricultural products to urban areas.
Akindele stated this in an interview with GOALPOACHER NEWS on Saturday, said that since he assumed office, he has graded no fewer than 90 roads, with majority of them in the rural areas.
According to him, before now, these roads were in deplorable state, as commercial and private vehicles found it very difficult to ply, but that with the current upgrade, vehicular movement have become faster and smoother.
“Many people have been asking me why I am paying special attention on grading roads in rural areas. I believe opening up of rural areas will make it easier for farmers to transport their agricultural products to the towns at cheaper cost.”
“A situation where rural farmers pay high cost of transportation because of bad roads leading to the urban centres or cities to sell their products discourage many people to engage in farming in rural areas.
“Grading of rural roads will also help give people living in the areas, a sense of belonging, so that they will not think that the LCDA has abandoned them.”
Chief Akindele however commended Governor Seyi Makinde for his developmental strides which are being felt in Afijio West LCDA
Some of the residents who spoke with GOALPOACHER NEWS lauded Chief Akindele for being alive to his responsibility. One of them said, “our roads were left ungraded for the past 8 years but today, our roads have taken new dimensions, they are now motor able.”
“We really thank him for his relentless efforts to ensure that Ilora and it axis enjoy dividends of democracy,we thank Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde.”
Some of the graded roads completed today include: Late Chief Odefunso street, Chief Samson Community and Abepe Community Zone 2 among others.
All activities were supervised by and captured by the council super for works, Hon(Amb) Wumi Akinrinola.
