The Southwest leader of the New Nigerian People’s Party, Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan has announced his resignation from the party. Western Daily reports.
Olopoeyan, who has been the overall leader and the face of NNPP in the Southwest zone, is said to be the major financier of the party in Oyo state.
The former Oyo PDP Chieftain who joined NNPP over two years ago ascribed himself as one who made NNPP as one of the major opposition parties in Oyo state cited personal reasons for his resignation.
In a statement on Wednesday morning titled “Resignation from the New Nigerian People’s Party,” Olopoeyan reflected on his long-standing commitment to the party’s development in Oyo state, said he find it worthy to leave NNPP even thou, with his commitment and unquestionable support for the party since he joined in 2022.
However, Olopoeyan expressed appreciation to the foundation and Chairman of Board of Trustees (BoT), Boniface Aniebonam as well as other party leaders for their love and accommodations throughout the time he spent with them in NNPP.
Despite his resignation from NNPP, Olopoeyan assured that he will always be available for and continue his outside political relationship with Chief Boniface Aniebonam.
Acknowledging the difficulty of his decision, Olopoeyan emphasized the necessity of taking this step.
” It is in the light of the foregoing, that I am compelled to offer my resignation from the New Nigerian People’s Party
effective immediately. While this decision was difficult to take, I, however, believe that it is the right one,” he stated.
However, Olopoeyan after his resignation from NNPP did not announced his next move in politics, he stated that, he will make a statement about his next move in politics soonest.
Goalpoacher News can authoritatively report that Olopoeyan is set to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
He was one of the PDP leaders that ensured Makinde got the party’s structure in 2018 which led to the exit of Senator Rashidi Ladoja and others to the ADC in 2018.
This news platform understands that he (Olopoeyan) fell out with Governor Seyi Makinde in 2020 but reconciled with each other after the 2023 gubernatorial election.
Olopoeyan was given Supervisory Councillors, Special Assistants and other slots in 32 out of the 33 local governments in Oyo State.
