In a remarkable stride toward strengthening basic education, the Executive Chairman of Oyo East Local Government, Hon. Oluokun Peter Olusola, on Wednesday, 3rd December 2025, officially flagged off the distribution of 1,098 free Basic Six (6) Compendium to all Primary Six pupils across public primary schools within the local government.
The special compendium carefully developed to cover core subjects such as Mathematics, English Studies, Basic Science, Social Studies, Yoruba Studies, Quantitative and Verbal Reasoning, ICT, Basic Technology, and more is designed to equip pupils with essential knowledge for their Common Entrance and Placement Examinations into JSS 1.
This initiative is part of the administration’s ongoing commitment to quality education and support for pupils from all backgrounds.
Speaking during the distribution ceremony held at the council secretariat, Hon. Oluokun highlighted the supportive leadership of His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde, Executive Governor of Oyo State, and the progressive contributions of Sen. Dr. Monsurat Olajumoke Sunmonu, both of whom were acknowledged as pillars of educational advancement in Oyo East and the entire state. He described the project as a “deliberate investment in the future of Oyo East children and a bold step toward educational excellence.” He reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to ensure that no child is left behind in the pursuit of knowledge.
The Executive Secretary of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Ayegboyin, applauded the Chairman for this forward-looking gesture.
He noted that the compendium would significantly boost the preparedness of pupils across the local government, adding that Oyo East has once again demonstrated leadership in grassroots educational development.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo East Chapter, expressed deep appreciation to the council chairman.
He praised Hon. Oluokun for prioritizing the welfare and academic growth of pupils, stressing that such interventions motivate teachers and improve pupils’ performance in statewide examinations.
The Head of Local Government Administration (HLGA), Oyo East, described the initiative as a landmark achievement that aligns with the governor’s vision of quality education for all.
She commended the chairman for always putting the interest of the people first.
Similarly, the Oyo East PDP Party Chairman, Alhaji Rasheed, praised Hon. Oluokun’s consistent developmental strides, noting that the free compendium would reduce financial pressures on parents.
Other political leaders, including Hon. Azeez Tirimisiy, Hon. Fariogun, and the Political Head of Oyo South East LCDA, also lauded the chairman’s vision and commitment. They described the project as “a bold and unprecedented step toward academic excellence in Oyo East.”
Parents, teachers, and education stakeholders who witnessed the event expressed joy and gratitude, noting that this gesture would significantly improve pupils’ readiness for their examinations.
The ceremony ended with the symbolic distribution of the compendium to pupils, marking the beginning of its circulation across all primary schools in Oyo East Local Government.
With this latest achievement, Hon. Oluokun Peter Olusola continues to reinforce his administration’s dedication to empowering young learners and promoting accessible and quality education for all children within the local government.
