Oyo Government, ALGON, Accept Immigration’s Apology• Vacation Order Withdrawn

Oyo State Government, on Friday says it has accepted the apology tendered by the management of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), over the fracas that ensued on Wednesday, between some personnel of the agency and the Executive Council Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government.

GOALPOACHER NEWS reports that Mr Sahib Yusuf, the council chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, was allegedly harassed by some personnel of the NIS on Wednesday.

The state headquarters of  NIS shares same fence with the council secretariat, closed to the State Government House.

The assault degenerated to serious rift between officers of the command and supporters of the council boss.

This consequently made the umbrella body of the state council chairmen – Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), to issued 24 hours vacation notice to NIS, asking the command to vacate its structures occupying by NIS across the 33 local government areas of the state.

The National Headquarters of NIS, however, on Thursday, issued Press statement in respect of the fracas and called for calm while promised to investigate the matter.

Speaking with newsmen on Friday shortly after the peace meeting, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr Bayo Lawal, announced that the whole issue had been resolved.

Lawal declared that the vacation notice and other threats issued by ALGON to NIS had been withdrawn and both parties have been directed to forget the matter, asserting that NIS had tendered an apology which had been accepted.

Lawal said “initially, we were been disturbed because of the fact that it is a family issue.

“And when you have crisis within family as volatile as it was, it Is something to worry about.

“But we thank God that it has been resolved amicably, we are one family, we don’t want the peaceful relation that exist between them to break down.

“For the peace and tranquility of the society, the best interest is to ensure that the matter must be resolved and that is what we have done.

“Henceforth, there is no cause for alarm and I can assure you that such would never happen again”.

The commissioner advised the people of the state to be patient with one another, noting that people get irritated with little things nowadays because of situation in the country.

GOALPOACHER NEWS reports that the Public Relation Officer of NIS in the state, Mr Olufemi Adetunji and the state ALGON chairman, Mr Sikiru Sanda, led their respective team for the peace meeting presided over by Lawal.
