Oyo state government has given approval for the payment of 800 Million Naira counterpart fund contributions for the rural water supply and sanitation to enable state government to have access to 2.9 billion Naira from federal government through the Federal Ministry of Water Resources.
This was approved at the state executive council meeting chaired by the Oyo state Governor Seyi Makinde held at Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.
The counterpart fund of 2.9 billion according to Commissioner for Youth and Sports and his counterpart at Budget and Planning, Hon Adeniyi Aderinto will ensure expansion of water supply to 20 local government Areas in the state as first step while effort will be made to provide portable water supply to the remaining 13 local council areas.
He said with the approval of the payment of the 800 million Naira counterpart contributions fund from Oyo state government will also ensure implementation of Partnerships for expanded water supply sanitation and hygiene known as( P wash) as in 20 out 33 local government Areas of the state as contained in the state Investment plan.
The project is targeted towards ensuring sustainable improvement of the water supply sanitation and hygiene in urban and small towns to provide portable water for the people.
Hon Farinto,said the state executive council also deliberated and resolved that the fire unit under ministry of public works and transport should be given autonomy as an agency for effective monitoring and coordinate activities relating to fire service in the state under Governor’s office supervision.
The council also agreed that the bill should be forwarded to Oyo state house of Assembly for consideration and passage into law.
The Commissioner for information, culture and Tourism Dr Wasiu Olatubosun,his youth and sports counterpart Seun Fakorede said most of the issues discussed at the 21st state executive council meeting was meant to fast track meaningful development to the state.
Dr Wasiu Olatubosun said the detachment of Fire service from ministry of public works and infrastructure and make it full fledged agency under the supervision of Governor’s office will strengthen the effectiveness of the state fire service.
