As part of activities to commemorate this year’s world cancer day, Oyo state government has scheduled February 6th Saturday to roll out a free breast and cervical screening programme for women of reproductive age
The commissioner for health Dr. Bashir Bello who disclosed this today in an event to commemorate 2021 world cancer day held at the ministry of health explained that the screening programme in partnership with coalition against cancer and Hacey health initiative was to mitigate the socio economic impact of cancer as government would continue to focus on the preventive and curative aspect of cancer management
Dr. Bashir Bello also noted that government would not relent in creating awareness about cancer across all communities in the state such that it would benefit the people and continue to maintain necessary collaborations that would ensure progress in reducing the global impact of cancer.
While stressing that about five hundred women would benefit from the free breast and cervical screening exercise scheduled for February 6th at Lagelu grammar school from 8am, the Special Adviser to the Governor on health…. said there was need to develop a culture where people would take responsibility for their health.
Goodwill messages from relevant stakeholders and women groups, panelists discussion on awareness on cancer prevention amongst others were high points of the event.
