Oyo State government has inaugurated the board for the State’s Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) to further strengthen the works of the agency in making water available for the people at the rural and urban communities.
While addressing the members who include Evangelist Sunday Ayobami, Hon. Gabriel Olayiwola and Engr. Abu Salami at their inaugural meeting, the Chairman, OYORUWASSA, Engr. Najeem Omirinde said the agency had suffered neglect from successive administrations which led to most of the equipment of the agency getting obsolete.
He said the present administration has revamped the working of the agency with the recent purchase of a rig and repair of the existing ones.
“With the present administration’s support, serious steps of transformation have commenced in earnest in respect of approval of repair of old drilling rigs and compressor, purchase of new drilling rigs, ready for commissioning by His Excellency.
“We have had the approval of a bank facility to the tune of #800million which would be counterpart funding to get listed and secure a grant of #2.9billion from the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Abuja, partnership with several nongovernmental organizations like the Water-Aid for provision of handwashing facilities, WASH Clean Nigeria Campaign and others.
“Consequent upon the above, I welcome you on board to this agency and I solicit for your support, commitment and understanding in order to assist the State government to uplift the standard of living of the citizens in the area of provision of quality water and reduction of water borne diseases in the State,” Omirinde stated.
