The Lawmaker representing Ibadan Northeast Constituency 1 at the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon Abiodun Babalola has donated the sum of N500, 000 for the construction of a befitting station for Western Nigeria Security Network code name, Amotekun iat Adekile area of Ibadan Northeast Local Government.

The lawmaker while moving a motion at Plenary on Thursday harped on the need to build befitting stations for the security outfit in all the 33 local governments in Oyo State.

According to the lawmaker, the establishment of Amotekun in 2020 has helped to nip many criminal activities in the bud and arrest suspected actors.

Babalola noted that their physical presence in nooks and crannies of Oyo State has also greatly helped prevent crimes while their ability to quickly respond to distress calls has proved to be a huge plus in crime fighting.

“Since its establishment in January 2020, Amotekun, also known as the Western Nigeria Security Network, has played a crucial role in enhancing security within Oyo State. The security outfit has been instrumental in addressing various security challenges such as banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of criminality, contributing significantly to the safety and well-being of our people.

“Further notes that the officers and men of Amotekun deserve commendation for their unwavering dedication and remarkable contributions. Their efforts have led to a notable reduction in crime rates, including armed robbery and kidnapping. Their collaboration with other security agencies, such as the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army, has resulted in more effective operations and intelligence sharing, further bolstering security efforts.

“Despite their commendable achievements, the conditions of the offices and stations where Amotekun officers operate are often deplorable. These dedicated security personnel deserve to work in environments that are conducive and reflective of their important role in safeguarding our communities. Providing them with befitting stations across all Local Government Areas will not only enhance their operational efficiency but also boost their morale and commitment.

The lawmaker observes that constructing modern, well-equipped stations for Amotekun within all Local Government Areas is essential for supporting their operations.

” These stations should be equipped with necessary facilities, including communication equipment, vehicles, and adequate office spaces, to ensure their effective functioning and continued success in maintaining security.

“Further observe that to ensure the successful implementation of this initiative, a strategic plan involving all stakeholders is crucial.

” Each Local Government Area should identify suitable locations and allocate the necessary resources for constructing these stations. It is also essential to establish a robust monitoring and evaluation framework to track the progress of this initiative. Regular assessments will help identify challenges and areas for improvement, ensuring that the goals of enhanced security are met.”

Hon Babalola urged the Executive Arm of Government in collaboration with all Local Government Councils:
