The Okere of Saki land , His Royal Majesty , Oba Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi , Ilugbemidepo , has advocated the creation of new polling units due to the rapid expansion of the town, for members of new settlements to participate in the forth coming local government council elections at ease .
The Royal father , who assured members of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission of maximum support , enjoined sons and daughters of the town to believe in the commission and troop out enmass and vote for preferred candidates at the local government election
Oba Olabisi , while speaking with journalists shortly after a town hall meeting and sensitization campaign embarked upon by OYSIEC led by its Chairman, Aare Isiaka Abiola Olagunju SAN at his palace , said the rate at which saki town is expanding demands new polling units with a view to achieving all inclusive poll.
While admonishing the leaders of various groups present at the event to canvass their followers on the need to participate in the local government council elections , Oba Olabisi , appealed to residents of the town to disengage themselves from political parties that might want to lure them into unlawful acts during election period .
” We have listened to you and we can assure your commission of maximum co-operation”
” Saki is growing rapidly, people are occuping new settlements . We are appealing to the electoral umpire at national and state levels to look into how these settlements can have polling units for residents not to feel cheated ”
He advised members of the commission to be conscious of their deeds and endeavour to leave a legacy that is worthy of emulation .
While speaking on behalf of the commission, one of the commissioners , Mr. Emmanuel Olanrewaju, emphasised the need for all and sundry to play their parts in the realization of election that would stand the test of time .
Mr. Olanrewaju sought for the support of relevant stakeholders and the entire people of Saki towards achieving free , fair and credible local government council elections.
The commission had earlier taken its ongoing public awareness campaign on forthcoming local government council elections to Ibarapa East , Eruwa, Ibarapa Central , Igboora and Ibarapa north local governments , Ayete .
Others were Iwajowa , Iganna , Kajola , Okeho , Iseyin , Itesiwaju and Saki west local government areas of the state .
