The Park Management System (PMS) Chairman in Oyo State, Alhaji Wasiu Tomiwa Omolewa, popularly known as Tommy, has been honoured with the prestigious title of “Peace Ambassador.”
The award was bestowed on him by the Seriki Sasa of the Hausawa community in Oyo State, Haruna Maiyasin, for his outstanding contributions to peacebuilding and community development in the state
The Hausa ruler described Alhaji Tommy as a tireless advocate for harmony whose commitment to fostering unity among major parks has significantly contributed to the stability of the area.
He noted that Tommy’s efforts in promoting peaceful coexistence among different transport groups have not gone unnoticed.
“Alhaji Tommy has been instrumental in bridging gaps between transport groups ensuring that dialogue and understanding prevail over conflict,” HRH Maiyasin stated during the award ceremony.
“His dedication to peace is commendable and serves as a model for others.”
In showing appreciation for the honour done to him, the Oyo PMS chairman expressed profound gratitude to the Seriki Sasa and the people of Oyo.
He said, “This award is not just for me; it is a recognition of the collective efforts of everyone who believes in peace and progress. I am deeply humbled.”
According to him, the role of leadership is to ensure that communities thrive in an atmosphere of safety and mutual respect.
He emphasized, “We must continue to work together to sustain peace and promote development. Our strength lies in our unity.”
Tommy further encouraged all stakeholders to engage in continuous dialogue and collaboration, stating, “Let us not relent in our quest for peace. It is a journey that requires commitment from each and every one of us.”
