OYO UNVEILS GAME, ORGANIZES SEMINAR FOR COACHES, REFEREES

Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Seun Fakorede, had on Thursday declared opened the seminar of the Teqball, a new game, for coaches and referees in Oyo State.

Teqball is another game with the use of players’ heads, shoulder and legs and it is played on a table like the table tennis, by two or four players at a time.

During the opening event of the unveiling of the Teqball training equipment which was held at Liberty Stadium, Ibadan on Thursday , the commissioner who was represented by the Director Sport Administration Mrs. Olubisi Adegoke, made it known that the innovation would enhanced capacity and promote productivity in youth.

He said the game is an innovation which is still under study and those that will officiate and handle its administration must be properly instructed, the reason for the training.

While commending the initiator of the Teqball in Oyo State and management of the Ministry for deeming it fit to add the new sporting innovation officially to the array of sports in Nigeria and Oyo State, he added that the State Government will continue to accord due recognition to organizations in the State, that are complementing the administration’s efforts in the development of sports.

She therefore urged the participants who attended the seminar to avail themselves of the training opportunity by making the best use of all the skills that will be impacted to them.

In his remarks Engineer Akinjobi Adewale, chairman Oyo State Teqball Association , said the game is newly introduced with combination of the features of the popular football and table tennis.

He stressed further that the game is introduced in order to develop youths in sports and to prepare a contingent that will represent Oyo State and Nigeria at the international level.

Present at the occasion are doctor Felix Owolabi, Alhaji Olatunji, Mr Rotimi Afolabi Oyo State Teq Association , Vice Chairman Engineer , Bolarinwa Abdulazeez the State training official, Mrs. Funmilayo Ilori Oyo State Teq secretary amongst other.
