OYRTMA Rescue Victims of Crashed PMS-Laden Tanker in Ibadan (PHOTOS)

The Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority on Sunday said that a tanker laden Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) fell off the road with it’s highly inflatable content spilling over the Olorunsogo corridor and extending to the surroundings of the expressway, Ibadan.

According to a statement issued by the Executive Chairman of the Agency, Mogaji Akin Fagbemi, he noted that the agency received a distress call on a road traffic accident involving the PMS laden truck.

Fagbemi added that the driver of the heavy-duty truck was stuck and his subordinate was incapacitated to assist at the moment.

He added that the agency’s Fast-Track Emergency Rescue Operation team led by Adisa Oluwakayode swung into actions immediately and was able to rescue the victims alive in a concerted effort with the state Fire Service.

Fagbemi, however said normalcy has long returned as free flow of traffic is being experienced at the Olorunsogo axis of the expressway. His words:

“At about 0400hrs this morning, we received a distress call on a Road Traffic Accident involving a PMS-laden tanker that fell off the road with it’s highly inflammable content spilling over the Olorunsogo corridor and extending to the surroundings of the expressway, Ibadan, Oyo State.”

“The driver of the heavy-duty truck was stuck and his subordinate was incapacitated to assist at the moment.”

“Our Fast-Track Emergency Rescue Operations (FERO) team led by Commandant Adisa Oluwakayode who swung into immediate actions was able to rescue the victims alive in a concerted effort with the State Fire Service whose men and officers displayed high professionalism and timely response to the applause of passersby and eye witnesses who expressed immense gratitude to the Governor Seyi Makinde led Oyo State Government in enhancing the capacity of State owned Agencies to perform optimally even at very short notice and under stringent conditions.”

“The rescued victim who sustained a critical degree of injury has been moved to the hospital and he is responding to treatment.”

“While investigations are still ongoing as at the time of filling this report to ascertain the cause (s) of the crash, the truck involved as been repositioned not to obstruct traffic pending when it’s content would be transferred.”

“However, normalcy has long returned as free flow of traffic is been experienced at the Olorunsogo axis of the expressway.”
