The Babalaje of Ogbomosoland, Engineer Muftau Open Salawu, has donated N10 million and food items to Muslim faithful in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, as part of activities marking the holy month of Ramadan.

Open Salawu made the donation on the 13th day of Ramadan during a Tafsir programme held at the palace of the Soun of Ogbomosoland in Ogbomoso.

During the event, he presented 100 bags of semovita and a cash donation of N500,000 to participants at the Tafsir. In addition, the Chief Imam and other Islamic leaders in the town received N1 million to support religious and community-based activities.

Speaking at the gathering, Open Salawu reiterated his commitment to supporting Islamic programmes and humanitarian initiatives in Ogbomoso, particularly during Ramadan, which he described as a period of sacrifice, reflection and service to humanity.

As part of his contributions for the last 10 days of Ramadan, he also donated N2 million to the Ogbomoso Central Mosque Development Committee to support Itikaf, a spiritual retreat observed in the final days of Ramadan, during which Muslims seclude themselves in the mosque for intensive prayers, devotion and recitation of the Qur’an.

This publication understands Salawu has consistently sponsored the Itikaf programme at the Ogbomoso Central Mosque since its inception. In 2023, he donated N1 million to the mosque’s development committee, increased the support to N1.2 million in 2024 and N1.4 million in 2025, before raising it to N2 million this year.

Open Salawu, who also holds the titles of Giwa Adini of Oyo, Saraki Adini of the League of Imams and Alfas in Ogbomoso and Environs, and Waziri Jari Nupe, is widely known for his Ramadan outreach initiatives across the town.

Beyond financial donations, he annually sponsors large-scale Iftar programmes in three different locations within Ogbomoso. According to organisers, about 9,000 meals were distributed during the 2025 Ramadan period, while not fewer than 10,000 quality Iftar meals is being distributed this year.

The Tafsir programme, which attracted Islamic scholars, community leaders and residents from across Ogbomoso, formed part of the series of religious engagements held throughout Ramadan in the ancient town.
