In an ambitious move to elevate the quality of life for Oyo State residents, Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration has initiated a comprehensive review of the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) policy.
This initiative, spearheaded by the Oyo State Water Corporation in collaboration with UNICEF and WaterAid Nigeria, marks a significant step towards sustainable development and improved public health.
The recent three-day stakeholders’ meeting at Ilaji Resorts, Akanran, underscored the administration’s commitment to this cause.
Hon. Elias Adeojo, the Executive Chairman of the State Water Corporation, articulated the importance of this partnership. “Our collaboration with UNICEF and WaterAid Africa is not just a testament to the developmental strides of Governor Seyi Makinde but also a critical step towards ensuring our residents have access to clean water and improved sanitation,” he stated.
This alignment with renowned international bodies is poised to bring substantial benefits to the state, facilitating easier access to grants and support from both local and foreign NGOs.
The review and harmonization of the WASH policy are pivotal for the state’s future. Hon. Adeojo highlighted that this updated policy would open doors to enhanced collaboration with international donors, ensuring that Oyo State can fully leverage the expertise and resources of UNICEF and WaterAid.
The Chairman’s visit to the new acting Managing Director of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, Mr. Francis Edoha, further reinforced the administration’s dedication to revitalizing essential infrastructure.
The focus on restoring the Asejire Water Supply Scheme, despite existing challenges, underscores a commitment to sustainable development and the well-being of Oyo State residents.
Governor Seyi Makinde’s vision, coupled with Hon. Elias Adeojo’s diligent execution, exemplifies a forward-thinking approach to governance.
By prioritizing the review of the WASH policy and fostering strong partnerships with international organizations, the administration is laying a solid foundation for long-term growth and improved public health.
This initiative not only promises immediate benefits but also ensures a sustainable and prosperous future for Oyo State.
