The Oyo State Ministry of Environment Task Force, led by Environmental Health Officers, during an enforcement operation in Ibadan, arrested two men for illegally discharging human waste from a soakaway into a public gutter.
The offenders were immediately arraigned before a mobile court presided over by Barrister Toyosi, where they were found guilty of violating the provisions of the Oyo State Environmental Management and Sanitation Law, which prohibits the unlawful disposal of human waste, sewage, and other self-generated waste into public drains and gutters. In line with the law, the court imposed a fine of ₦100,000 each on the offenders.
The Oyo State Ministry of Environment strongly condemned the act, describing it as a serious environmental and public health offence.
The Ministry reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on environmental abuse and vowed to go hard on anyone whose intention is to deface Oyo State through improper disposal of self-generated waste.
It further assured residents that enforcement operations and mobile court prosecutions will be sustained across the state.
The Ministry therefore appealed to members of the public to cooperate with the Ministry of Environment by obeying environmental laws, adopting proper waste management practices, and reporting sanitation offences when observed.
According to the Ministry, maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy Oyo State is a shared responsibility that requires the collective effort of government and citizens.
