Wife of Ogbomoso Southwest LCDA Boss Sensitises Residents on Rape,Gender-Based Violence

The wife of the caretaker chairman Ogbomoso Southwest LCDA, Mrs Amusan Damilare Tolase has called for more concerted efforts at fighting the increasing incidences of sexual and domestic violence against women in the council.

The chairman’s wife stated this on Wednesday during a campaign against rape Gender-Based Violence in Ogbomoso.

Speaking while fielding questions from GOALPOACHER NEWS after the walk, Mrs Amusan lamented that in spite of the existing laws prohibiting rape and gender-based violence, the state continues to witness issues of rape, defilement and other vices. She said, “say no to rape, no means no,let everyone learn to control his urge and be responsible, to avoid being victim of evil.”

On his part, the caretaker chairman of Ogbomoso Southwest, Hon Damilare Amusan the council would collaborate with the state government to prevent the state from being tagged a fertile ground for violence against women and the girl- child.

Hon Amusan therefore, urged the people to speak up against those indulging in such criminal acts.


Participants at the rally displayed placards with various inscriptions such as, “say no to women abuse’,’ “Ogbomoso stands against rape’’ and “say no to domestic violence’’ among others, to express their disapproval of rape and other gender-based violence.

Stakeholders at the rally also condemned rape and violence against women and girls in its totality. They warned that no offender should go unpunished, saying that rape, domestic violence and child abuse are crimes and must be treated as such.

The chairman and his wife commended Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde and Oyo state first Lady Mrs Tamunominini Makinde for the swift action and awesome initiative to campaign against rape and gender-based violence in the state.

In similar vein, the duo expressed their gratitude to the traditional rulers in their council, Oba Onpetu of Ijeruland and Oba Onibapon for their warm welcome, prayer and support for justice and peace in the council.
