World Radio Day : Oyo Assembly Lauds Professionals, Advocates Ethical Broadcasting

 

Radio professionals across the country have been commended for informing, entertaining and enlightening members of the public through their various programmes on the electronic media.

The commendation was contained in a statement issued by the State House of Assembly to commemorate 2024 World Radio Day.

The statement was issued and signed by the Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Hon. Waheed Akintayo Ilumoka, Oluyole State Constituency.

According to the statement, the theme for this year’s celebration ” Radio:A century informing, entertaining and educating is apt” will afford practitioners the opportunity to x-ray and review how well they have performed their roles as professional broadcasters.

” The 10th Oyo State House of Assembly rejoices with radio owners and broadcasters in the State and across Nigeria on the World Radio Day. It is a UNESCO international day which is celebrated every 13th of February. This is always asn opportunity to celebrate Radio as a medium. We will like to commend all the stakeholders in the industry for performing their roles excellently well.

” The radio broadcasting is one of the booming industries we have in Oyo State especially in Ibadan. As we speak, we have close to 50 radio stations in Oyo State and they are all making great contributions to information dissemination ”

The statement further appealed to all radio owners and practitioners to continue to uphold the pristine ethics of radio broadcasting in relation to news coverage and programmes presentation, objectivity, balance and fair hearing, freedom of speech, respect for minors, contempt of court, libel and defamation among others.
