COVID-19 ADELABU TO DISBURSE #25M TO 7,500 PEOPLE IN THE 33 LG AND 35 LCDA
Having realised the limitations and complexities of the distribution logistics in its earlier relief materials to support the indigent residents of Oyo state, Bayo Adelabu Foundation has decided to complement its relief materials with minimal cash transfers to residents of Oyo state as additional palliatives in this difficult period.
During the month of March, preventive and relief items ranging from Hand sanitisers, nose covers and food items were distributed to some of the residents. It was however realised that social distancing and logistic issues cut off a number of residents from benefiting in this program. This is why the Foundation has decided to embark on its second phase to complement its earlier efforts with token cash transfers to a larger population to support the government efforts. The cash support which started last week will run through this new week. Families, friends, party loyalists and the general public are targeted in this second phase of the foundation’s relief program.
In addition, reasonable sums are also set aside as bulk donations to the Muslim community via NACOMYO as well as the Christian community via the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to enable them procure relief items to support their respective members in need as identified by the bodies.
In a statement released to the journalists in Ibadan, one of Bayo Adelabu media Aides, Comrade Femi Awogboro stated the fact that this second phase which will gulp about N25million may not even touch every individual due to the large number of the indigent and under employed population of the state, but nothing less than 7,500 residents across the 33 local governments and 35 LCDAs in the state will benefit from this program. He also stated that this will go a long way to alleviate the suffering of the poor masses during this difficult period.
To ensure non partisanship of the program and to enable the distribution have a wider coverage, specific bulk sums have also been set aside for allocation to selective radio stations which include but not limited to Splash FM, Fresh FM, Space FM, Ajilete FM and BCOS for distribution to their call-in listeners on their various programs. This will however continue on a weekly basis till the Sit at home period is over.
The foundation which is owned by the 2019 Governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress Party Chief Adebayo Adelabu who doubles as the immediate past Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria has decided to support the Federal and State Governments to help the needy and cushion the economic effect of Covid-19 disease in the state.
He said, “it is imperative to strictly adhere to social distancing rules, regular use of hand sanitizers and compliance to personal hygiene rules during this period to protect us from this epidemic disease in our land”.
“Oloye Bayo Adelabu has reiterated his commitment to continue to assist the public through his 18years old foundation and alleviate the suffering of the masses by this humanitarian gesture”.
According to Awogboro, Oloye Adelabu believes this is a period that calls for concerted efforts of every resident of this state to join hand with the government to combat and survive this crisis while partisan politics should be waved aside till 2023.
