Debo Akande: The Technocrat Politicians Fear Even Without Political Ambition’ Declaration

In Oyo State, some politicians are unsettled. Not because Debo Akande has sought power, not because he has declared a governorship ambition, but because his results are undeniable, and they make the status quo look weak.

Since 2019, Akande has quietly facilitated foreign investments, driven economic growth, and created employment opportunities on a scale that few can match.

Yet, he has never signalled any personal political agenda. Neither has Governor Seyi Makinde suggested using him as a political pawn. He is focused entirely on impact: transforming sectors, empowering youth, and making Oyo State a magnet for business and investment.

And still, core political actors watch with apprehension. Why? Because Akande’s contributions are tangible, measurable, and beneficial to everyone, including those same politicians.

Consider the facts: under his stewardship, agriculture and agribusiness have been revitalised with a focus on youth empowerment. Training programmes, improved value chains, and strengthened market access have positioned young people not merely as labourers but as stakeholders in a structured economic ecosystem.

Agro-processing, logistics, and rural enterprise have evolved into real avenues for economic mobility. Smallholders and youth-led ventures are no longer marginal, they are central to a system that works.

These interventions have created both direct and indirect employment across farming, processing, and trade. Young men and women who once faced limited prospects now operate within organised frameworks that offer income, purpose, and long-term opportunity.

At the same time, foreign investors and international partners have taken notice, seeing a sector defined by preparedness, discipline, and tangible results rather than political projection.

Akande’s method is deliberate. He does not seek headlines, nor does he crave political titles. He aligns private initiative with public policy, ensuring that investment reaches ordinary citizens and reinforces Governor Makinde’s broader development agenda.

It is this alignment, unadorned, practical, and results-driven, that generates real progress, and, apparently, fear among those whose power thrives on perception rather than performance.

The irony is stark: politicians resist what they benefit from. They question, speculate, and even spread doubt about a man who has only strengthened the administration they serve under.

Yet Akande remains consistent, focused on tangible results: jobs created, investments secured, and youth empowered. He demonstrates that transformation is not a matter of ambition but of capability.

In the end, Oyo State’s growth under this quiet but powerful technocrat is a testament to the impact of action over rhetoric. Debo Akande is proof that true leadership does not need to declare itself, it shows itself in results, in livelihoods created, in foreign investments realised, and in an economy poised for sustainable expansion.

And perhaps that is why some politicians are unsettled: because real influence, when untethered from political manoeuvring, is simply unstoppable.
