Democracy Day: Hon Alawode Calls For Peace, Unity, Love, Spirit of Brotherlines
As the nation celebrates the 2024 Democracy Day, the Executive Chairman of Ibadan South East Local Government, Hon. Emmanuel Oluwole Alawode has called on Nigerians to promote peace, unity and love in ensuring a secure, united and prosperous nation.
Hon. Alawode made the call in a message of felicitation with Nigerians on the occasion adding that
the space known as Nigeria would be a haven of peace, unity and progress if all citizens love their neighbours and embrace the spirit of brotherliness.
The Arole Omituntun, while commending the past heroes of democracy for their altruistic and relentless determination and sacrifices which eventually gave birth to democratic governance in Nigeria, urged citizens to use the occasion to reflect on the long journey the country has made towards the enthronement of a civil democratic order, before national Independence in 1960 till date and the sacrifices of our patriots.
The council boss charged Nigerians to continue to cherish these selfless efforts of our patriots, who laid down their lives for the realization of democratic system of governance and so encouraged us all to reflect on the efforts of our founding fathers and ensure that Nigeria remains one united, secured, peaceful and an indivisible entity, noting that no development can take place in an acrimonious environment.
In conclusion, Hon. Alawode enjoined all citizens, both public and private, to also lead the charge for sustainable development in their various fields of operation, reiterating that the economies of nations are built by their citizens, under the guidance of their governments.
Today is celebrated annually as democracy day in Nigeria to commemorate the annulment of June 12 Presidential election in 1993 presumed to have been won by Late Chief M.K.O Abiola.
