A coalition of youths in Egbeda State Constituency has strongly rejected claims by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) youth leadership that there is no opposition to the third-term ambition of Hon. Olasunkanmi Babalola.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the group accused the Egbeda Local Government Youth Leader, Comrade Aderemi Oderinlo, of double standards, insisting he lacks the moral authority to speak on behalf of all youth groups in the local government.
The coalition maintained that a significant number of young people in Egbeda are dissatisfied with the current representation and are demanding change, contrary to the position earlier presented by the PDP youth leadership.
They warned that any attempt to field Hon. Babalola for another term would be met with strong resistance at the polls, vowing to mobilize en masse support for an opposition candidate if he is presented as the party’s flagbearer.
The group also challenged both Hon. Babalola and Comrade Oderinlo to provide a clear account of the lawmaker’s achievements, arguing that his performance in office has not met the expectations of constituents.
Furthermore, the coalition called on the state governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, to listen to the concerns of youths across the constituency and see to the matter in the interest of the people, progress, and development of Egbeda.
It warned that presenting Babalola as a candidate could have adverse consequences for the PDP’s electoral chances in Egbeda Local Government during the next gubernatorial election.
The statement concluded with a caution to party leaders to take the position of the youth coalition seriously, noting that ignoring their concerns could carry significant political implications.
