#EndSARS Protest: Makinde Inaugurates Eleven-Man Judicial Panel of Enquiry, Says Over 50 Petitions Received
Oyo state Governor Seyi Makinde has inaugurated an eleven man judicial panel of inquiry to investigate human right violation, police brutality and extra judicial killings as an aftermath of the ENDSARS protest and in line with federal directives.
According to GOALPOACHER NEWS, Governor Makinde who inaugurated the panel today at the executive council chambers of the Governor’s office, said the state government took time before constitute the panel to ensure quality representation and clarity of cases the panel would handle
The Governor explained that over 50 petitions had been received and implored other residents who might have issues of human right violation, police brutality and extra judicial killings to seek redress with the panel, adding that Isiaka Jimoh, Ganiyu Moshood including others killed during the ENDSARS protest as well as police officers killed, would be thoroughly investigated and perpetrators brought to book
While noting that Governors of South West in a recent meeting held in Lagos didn’t vote in favour of a clampdown on social media but agreed that the current cyber crime act should deal with issues in that regard, Governor Makinde hinted that government at all levels needed to build the trust deficit and truly address the hunger and anger in the land
The Governor also charged the panel to be objective, and ensure fairness, justice and equity prevail
Earlier the commissioner for justice and attorney general, Professor Oyelowo Oyewo assured that with the caliber of people on the panel, it would discharge the functions of making quality recommendations meritoriously
The panel comprises Hon. Justice Badejoko Adeniji (chairman), Prof. J. O Akintayo, Mrs. W. F Odutayo, N. O Sulaiman, Ms. M. Y Kolawole, Hon. Babs Oduyoye, Mrs. M Badmus, Ms. O Akintayo, Falowo Saheed, Agbeja Adebobolab, Mrs. O. O Ogundele (Secretary).
