Ground Rent Payment: Your Decision Aligns With Makinde’s Vision – Group Hails Wole Akinleye
…Lauds His Bold Step to Improve Council’s IGR
The Ibadan Network for Grassroot Development, led by Director-General Ayoola Adedoja, has expressed strong support for Hon. Akinwole Akinleye, the Executive Chairman of Akinyele Local Government, in his recent decision regarding the collection of ground rent payments.
According to the group, this initiative is not merely a revenue-generating measure; it reflects a broader commitment to sustainable development and fiscal responsibility within the local government.
The move, the group said, aligned seamlessly with Governor Seyi Makinde’s vision to enhance local governance and empower communities through improved financial management.
Adedoja stated that Hon. Akinleye’s focus on ground rent payments is a strategic approach to boost the council’s internally generated revenue (IGR), which is vital for funding essential services and developmental projects in Akinyele.
“By prioritising this revenue stream, the local government can better address the needs of its constituents, enhance infrastructure, and invest in community programs that foster growth and development,” he stressed.
Recall that the Chairman’s recent actions are a clear indication of his determination to ensure that the local government’s resources are utilized effectively and transparently.
He called upon all stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue about land use and management, emphasizing the importance of due process in all transactions.
In addressing the malicious social media post that has circulated recently, Hon. Akinleye responded to claims made by individuals alleged to be aides of the previous administration.
These individuals asserted that they received lands belonging to Akinyele Local Government as “gifts” without any official documentation or payments to the council’s coffers.
In a firm rebuttal, Hon. Akinleye stated that he will not allow political maneuvering to impede the development of the Local Government, urging anyone in possession of Akinyele property without following the proper procedures to rectify their situations by adhering to the legal requirements for land acquisition.
The Chairman reiterated that ground rents are a lawful source of internal revenue for the Local Government and that the council will continue to exercise its rights to collect these dues as mandated by law.
He noted that the approach is essential in maintaining the integrity and financial sustainability of the council.
However, he reassured legitimate occupants of the Local Government lands and assets, encouraging them to remain confident in their rights.
Hon. Akinleye emphasised that the council is committed to protecting them from any undue pressure or intimidation from those attempting to undermine their legal standing.
