Hon. Olorunpoto Convenes Youth Stakeholders Meeting towards Ensuring Peaceful Protests in Oyo Town
The Youth Stakeholders of Oyo East/Oyo West State Constituency, on Wednesday, held a crucial meeting in Oyo West Local Government to address concerns and coordinate efforts regarding August 1 nationwide protests.
The gathering brought together elected officials, security agencies, and prominent community leaders to discuss a unified approach and resolve critical issues.
According to the communiqué issued by Alh. Salam, after the meeting, the collaborative efforts of the stakeholders to maintain peace and address the concerns of the youth in Oyo East and Oyo West were highlighted.
The meeting was attended by several key figures, including Hon. Olorunpoto Cephas Rahaman, the Oyo East/Oyo West State Constituency representative; Hon. Sola Oluokun, the Chairman of Oyo East Local Government, and Hon. Hakeem Salamm, the Chairman of Oyo West Local Government.
Also present were representatives from the police, Department of State Services (DSS), and various youth and community organisations.
The attendees reached several important resolutions to ensure the peaceful conduct of any protests in Oyo town.
They emphasised that any individuals promoting violence during a peaceful protest will be apprehended and handed over to the police.
The stakeholders also strongly encouraged a peaceful protest, if one is to take place, and reiterated that the protest should remain non-political in nature.
To foster better communication and coordination, the meeting established the framework for regular stakeholder meetings between elected officials, security agencies, and youth leaders.
The leaders of the potential protest in Oyo town were also officially defined during the discussions.
Notably, Hon. Olorunpoto Cephas Rahaman urged protesters to use Thursday, August 1st, 2024, to observe events across the country, particularly in Ibadan, before deciding on the next course of action.
The police have also committed to ensuring the protection of protesters if a protest does occur.
