Hon. Olusola Adeleke Highlights Citizen Participation at Ibarapa Inter Tertiary Debate and Speech Competition
The second edition of the Ibarapa Inter Tertiary Debate and Speech Competition, organized by the Center for Advocacy, Leadership, and Development in Africa, was a resounding success, drawing a host of esteemed guests and showcasing the talents of students from across the region.
The theme for this year’s event was: “Should the sustainability of an effective judiciary system be solely the responsibility of the judiciary?”
In his address, Hon. Azeez Sodiq Adesina, representing Hon. Olusola Ayodele Adeleke, delivered a compelling speech on the topic “Citizens Participation in National Development Through Social Impact.”

Citizen Engagement: Hon. Adeleke emphasized the crucial role of citizen participation in national development, stating that every individual has a part to play in building a prosperous, just, and inclusive society.
Social Impact: He highlighted how social impact initiatives in education, healthcare, and community service can drive significant positive changes and improve the quality of life.
Empowerment Through Education: Hon. Adeleke called for increased awareness and education to empower citizens, encouraging them to engage in volunteerism, civic activities, and social entrepreneurship.
Leveraging Technology: He stressed the importance of using technology to amplify social initiatives and engage a broader audience.
The debate competition was a highlight of the event, showcasing the impressive skills and knowledge of students from various tertiary institutions in the Ibarapa zone. Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa, emerged victorious, securing first place. Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, IgboOra, came in second, and Oyo State College of Education, Lanlate, secured third place, with all participants delivering outstanding performances.
Hon. Adeleke also took the opportunity to urge the youths to be good ambassadors for their community and to make themselves available to their peers and society. “Your role is crucial in driving the progress and prosperity of our beloved local government. Be accessible to the people and serve with dedication and integrity,” he said.
The event was further graced by the presence of HRM Jimoh Olajide Titiloye, the Olu of IgboOra Land, Dr. Olusola Akande, Executive Secretary, Oyo State Health Insurance Agency, Prof. Akinola Kehinde Akinlabi, Rector of Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, IgboOra (Keynote Speaker), Alh. Rahman Onike, Deputy Registrar, Students Affairs Unit, Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, IgboOra (Guest Speaker), Prince Akintayo Akinyemi, Mr. Ojewola Kamorudeen and other notable dignitaries, who all emphasized the importance of collaboration and active participation in community development.
Hon. Adeleke expressed his deep appreciation to the students who turned out in large numbers to support the event. “I am deeply grateful to everyone who trooped out to rejoice with us. Your support and presence today highlight the unity and strength of our community,” he remarked.
