How Two Doctors, Hospital Staff Died of Lassa Fever – Oyo Govt Reacts
Oyo State Government has confirmed the death of three persons consisting of two Doctors and another hospital staff died of Lassa fever.
The commissioner for Health, Dr Taiwo Ladipo stated this in an interview with Journalists on the recent Lassa fever outbreak.
Since the first case of of Lassa fever was detected in January this year, Nineteen confirmed cases and four heightened at the grassroots have been so far recorded
Recently 4 health workers from a private health facility were admitted into the treatment centre early days of the week
Upon diagnostic investigations all four were confirmed positive for Lassa fever and three of them consisting two doctors and hospital staff died despite all efforts at caring for them by experts.
The development According to Commissioner for health Dr Taiwo Ladipo was unfortunate one.
He admonished the public to remain calm as resources have been deployed to designated health facilities to forestall spread of this disease across the state.
Also the Executive Secretary, State primary health care board, Dr Muideen Olatunji said the government has intensify efforts especially through sensitization programme in the grassroot.
He also stated that there synergy between University college hospital and Oyo state government towards curtailing the spread of the disease while all Infectious Disease Centres have been alerted about the development.
The ministry therefore implored all residents of the state to avoid contact with rats, contaminated of food items by rat faeces,urine and other body fluid while maintaining strict personal and environmental hygiene.
