Oyo State Government has approved the procurement of official vehicles for ten judges in the state to meet the the outstanding judicial officers and new judges including the President of the customary court of Appeal and Chief Judge.
This was disclosed on Tuesday by the state Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Barrister Oyewole Oyewo at press briefing shortly after the state Executive Council meeting at the Governor’s Office, Agodi Secretariat. His words: “As part of requirements for appointing judges, they are supposed to be given official vehicles. However, the last appointment that was done under the last administration couldn’t meet all the requirements, so what the administration has resolved to do is to meet the requirements for those whose cars provision is outstanding and then of course, we are the process of appointing new judges, three in the first instance, we are making provisions before the judges are appointed as part of the requirement for National Judicial Council (NJC) and also for the chief judge and the President Customary court of Appeal.”
“The exco also observed that the magistrate and the President of the grade A customary court are also yet to be provided since the last appointment. So in the next batch of provision of official vehicles, their needs would be met, in total, we are making provision for ten official vehicles to meet the outstanding judicial officers and the new judges including the president customary court of Appeal and the Chief Judge.”
In another development, the State Executive Council meeting resolved that having earlier approved the energy policy of the newly created Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources that the state achieves energy security and maintains clear trajectory as contained in the policy, it therefore resolves that the state procures state wide data on the total energy requirement, availability and penetration of such.
According to the Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Barrister Seun Ashamu, he noted that this would enable the government to deploy vital infrastructure to ensure that better services are immediately provided to residents of the state. He added that the executive Council also approved the award of a contract for the data and analysis for the sum of N78.4 m and it is expected to be completed in the next 60 days. He said, “this will enable the government to know where deploy vital infrastructure to ensure that better services are immediately provided to the residents of the state and for the government to unambiguously identify areas that the private sector can participate on commercial basis.”
“This was in clear pursuit of the four cardinal agenda of the state government along the lines of education, health care, security and economic prosperity.”
