Makinde Policies Are Populist, Ajimobi Had Most Aides In The History Of Western Region Than Any Other Government
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, Chief Niyi Akintola SAN, has admitted Governor Seyi Makinde is promoting populism to demarket the opposition in Oyo State.
Akintola stated this while speaking on Fresh FM Political Circuit this Saturday. He said, “this government has been operating on two plans, populism and demarketing.”
“Populism will not take it far, it is populism that has encouraged him to think that well, let me just do this so that people will clap,no no.”
“Like former Governor Abiola Ajimobi will always say, a good leader takes people to where they should go not where they want to go.”
“I agree with Governor Makinde and I appreciate the fact that the economic situation of the people must be taken into consideration but you must consider the public health intetest of the people.”
“The only area I disagree with the Governor is that he doesn’t want to step on toes, go to challenge, people are not observing social distancing even at Newspapers’ stand, you will see 80 people clustering together as if they are not aware of the pandemic”
He added that he phoned the governor to commend him for equipping the Infectious Disease Centre located at Olodo and lauded his proactive approach.
Speaking on the achievement of Governor Makinde since assumption of Office eleven months ago, he said, “Ajimobi constructed the restoration bridge within seven months while governor Makinde is yet to do anything in the state”
He urge Makinde not to disrupt the development template of the state.
Akintola said Governor Makinde hardly picks his calls whenever he called him unlike the Governors of Osun, Ondo and Ekiti who would always return his calls.
When asked to speak on the crisis bedeviling the All Progressives Congress with the appointment of Senator Abiola Ajimobi as the Deputy National Chairman of the party and naming former Governor Akala as the chairman of the reconciliation committee, Chief Akintola said,
“You don’t expect me to discuss this issue in the public, you know there must be reconciliation, it’s a good move but don’t expect me to start telling you the details of that here”
Chief Akintola, however said former Governor Abiola Ajimobi would be remembered for having the highest number of appointees in his administration in the history of old Western Region till the present dispensation.
You recall Chief Niyi Akintola was a gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of APC in the 2019 election but stepped down in the race after some leaders within and outside the state prevailed on him drop his ambition.
