Earlier on Thursday, I visited the site of the Bodija explosion to express sympathy and provide comfort to those affected by the tragic incident on January 17, 2024. During my visit, I had the opportunity to engage with families who had lost loved ones and others whose homes and livelihoods were adversely impacted.
” Witnessing their pains and resilience was inspiring, and I conveyed my unwavering support and commitment to fostering a safer environment in Oyo State.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences and commend the proactive efforts of the Oyo State government, led by the dynamic and indefatigable leader, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde. The immediate relief and support provided, including accommodations for affected families and the deployment of security operatives to safeguard against looting, have created a peaceful atmosphere in the area. Your exemplary leadership deserves emulation, and I sympathize with the entire population of Oyo State.
“However, our responsibility does not end there. We must collectively work towards preventing such tragedies in the future. I strongly advocate for the urgent establishment of a state policing system in Oyo State. A decentralized police force, closely connected to the communities it serves, can be more responsive and effective in averting and managing unfortunate incidents.
“I reiterate my call for the prompt implementation of a state policing system in Oyo State, complemented by other proactive measures, to build a more secure and peaceful environment for all citizens. Additionally, I visited and expressed sympathy to Senator Hóséà Ayoola Agboola (Halleluyah), an esteemed member of the Oyo State Advisory Council, whose property was severely affected by the explosion.
“I assure you that the Federal Government of Nigeria is actively mandating support for the Oyo State Government in rebuilding affected properties and assisting families who lost their loved ones and belongings. Let us collectively honor the memory of those who perished in the Bodija explosion by working together to forge a brighter future for Oyo State.”
