Oyo Deputy Speaker Reacts to Online Report That 13 Lawmakers Hurriedly Approved Makinde’s #100bn Bond
The Deputy Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon Abiodun Fadeyi has reacted to an online newspaper publication that thirteen members of the Oyo State House of Assembly loyal to the Speaker of the House, Adebo Ogundoyin had on Friday met to hurriedly approved the N100 billion loan request of Governor Seyi Makinde.
It will be recalled that Governor Makinde had in July 2019 forwarded a request to the House of Assembly to access the bond.
While speaking on Sunday at Fresh FM program (Cross-fire), anchored by foremost broadcast journalist, Mayor Isaac Brown, the Deputy Speaker, Fadeyi noted that the said publication was untrue. His words:
“Let me start by correcting the impression that thirteen members of the Oyo State House of Assembly hurriedly sat on Friday to approve the request of the Executive.
“Let the impression be corrected. The sitting on Friday was to revalidate the resolution of the N100 billion bond already passed by the House in July 2020.
“We had over twenty members who sat on that day to do our constitutional job. The report that only thirteen members sat is a fallacy.”
“The request wasn’t hurriedly passed as reported in the publication.
“Therefore, let the impression be corrected. The sitting on Friday was to revalidate the resolution of the N100 billion bond.
“We came back to document some other things that were not submitted initially to where the bond is coming from.
“When the Executive got the approval, they had to approach the House again to revalidate what was done earlier last year.
Hon. Abiodun also confirmed that the bond which would be released in two tranches of N50b each will still be utilized for the initial projects it is meant for namely: Ibadan Circular Road, Oyo-Ogbomosho Road, Ibadan Airport upgrade, Ibadan Dry Port and Rail Corridor.
