Oyo FIBAN Lauds Makinde’s Handling of #EndSARS Protest
The Freelance and Independent Broadcasters’ Association of Nigeria (FIBAN), Oyo State branch has lauded governor Seyi Makinde for what they called the mature and open mind with which he handled the protest against brutality and call for end to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Nigeria.
The body which paid a courtesy visit to the State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun on Monday said the governor has shown that he was cut out for leadership and would lead the State to a glorious height.
The State Chairman of FIBAN, Comrade Seun Awodele hinted that the association would do all within its capacity to give support to the present administration by supporting its programmes and policies in their broadcast contents.
“We are blessed in Oyo State to have the type of governor we craved, he has always been showing leadership traits since he assumed power and this was recently shown in his approach to the #EndSARS protest that has taken bad forms in other States.
“Makinde was the first governor to address the protesters and he declared his total support for a change in governance style in the country to favor the commoners, he also asked ‘Operation Burst’ to give protection to the protesters so that it would not be hijacked, that is the essence of leadership.
“We are going to support the government to achieve its mandate and projections in the areas of education, health, urban development and social welfare for the people, we will use our different platforms to project the good works of governor Makinde, he deserves it.”
While responding, the Commissioner, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun appreciated the association for their support to the government and asked them to do more in fighting for the welfare of their members.
He admonished FIBAN executive members to work on their members to sanitize the industry against quackery and unprofessional conducts among users of radio and television to project education, entertainment and information.
