Oyo Lawmaker, Ayo Fatokun Takes Campaign Against Rape to NYSC Camp in Iseyin
The lawmaker representing Akinyele Constituency 1 at the Oyo State House of Assembly, Ayotunde Fatokun in collaboration with other rights based Civil Society Organisation; Better Men Initiative on Sunday embarked on a one-day sensitization program against rape and other Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Iseyin NYSC Orientation Camp.
The Chairman Parliamentary Council, told GOALPOACHER News that the sensitization was aimed at educating the public on the implications of rape and other GBV.
Fatokun said that proper awareness and information on rape and GBV were part of key steps to addressing the monster currently plaguing
the society and called for extra support from stakeholders to tackle the menace.
According to him, the sensitization will bring new orientation in the lives of rapists whom he noted, live among their victims and thus help to reduce the rising trend.
Fatokun added that his foundation “Ayo Fatokun Foundation” has donated 300 copies of the book titled “Consent 101” to Oyo State Corp members.
We encourage corps members to read the book, which will educate them better and assist them to make use of the knowledge gained to lecture the young ones at their respective places of primary assignment.
In his remark, the founder of Better Men Initiative, Mr. Olanrewaju Ojo who is also the author of the book; ‘Consent 101’ said the essence of the book and advocacy, which will be taken to the rural areas, is to equip the people with strategic information on the dangers of rape, what to do when sexually molested or harassed, as well as ways to seek legal redress in case of eventualities.
