Pressing Issues Oyo Residents, Politicians Expect Makinde to Address on Monday

As the Oyo State government hosts its annual interfaith prayer on Monday at the Governor’s Office, public attention is shifting beyond the religious gathering, with residents and political class keenly await Governor Seyi Makinde’s response to three pressing issues confronting the state.

Top on the list is the controversy surrounding an alleged N30 billion intervention received from the Federal government as support for Bodija explosion of January 2024.

The controversy as residents maintained that the matter has largely been discussed, creating a demand for Makinde himself to directly clarify the issue and provide an official position.

There is also heightened anticipation over the governor’s succession plan.

Recall Makinde had earlier promised to unveil his successor in January, a statement that has generated widespread political interest.

With the month already underway, many residents and political stakeholders are keen to hear whether the governor will fulfil the pledge or provide an update on the matter.

Security is the third major concern, following a reported bandit attack around the Old National Park area.

The incident has raised anxiety among residents, who are looking to the governor for reassurance and a clear outline of measures being taken to address insecurity in the affected communities.

Also, Makinde is expected to make categorical statement if he will defect to another political party that will be used for 2027 elections should the ongoing crisis in the PDP festers. There are rumours that the governor may join ADC or Accord.

The annual inter-faith prayer, which usually brings together religious leaders, government officials and community representatives, is expected to provide an opportunity for the governor to speak directly on these issues and allay public concerns.
