REVEALED: What Gov Seyi Makinde, Adelabu Discussed
Oyo, FG to Partner on Stable, Regular Electricity Supply
Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has pledged his administration’s support for the Honourable Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu and his ministry in his bid to ensure the state and others enjoy better electricity supply.
The Governor gave the assurance on Monday when he received the Minister at the Governor’s office, Agodi, Secretariat, Ibadan.
Speaking at the Executive Council Chamber, Makinde while congratulating Adelabu declared that the state government would take full advantage of the newly signed 2023 Electricity Regulation Law noting that his administration would sign the state version of the law as soon as the State House of Assembly passed the the bill into law.
The Governor hinted that the 10 megawatt Independent Power Project his administration embarked upon in his first term would be commissioned in weeks time.
Makinde said politics and division must be set aside when it comes to governance, growth and development of the Pacesetter State, he expressed his government’s desire to work together with the Minister and his Ministry.
Speaking earlier, the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu stated that he ought to have paid a courtesy call on the Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde since his inauguration as a serving Minister to representing Oyo State at the Federal Executive Council.
According to the Minister, he said he was in Oyo State to officially pay a courtesy call on the Governor and to further discuss areas of partnership and collaboration with the state government on how to improve power supply that will boost economic activities and living conditions of Oyo residents.
His words:
“I ought to have have paid a courtesy visit to Governor Seyi Makinde after my Inauguration as a serving minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as the Governor of my state but our Governor was on a working visit to the the United States of America at the time of my inuaguration.
“We must work together, I’m paying a working visit to all the 36 states of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to discuss areas of partnership and collaboration to provide stable, reliable and regular power supply to each state.
“It’s very key to give worthwhile lifestyle to Nigerians.
“There cannot be economic growth and development without stable electricity.
“The era of politics is over, I’m here to work not to discuss politics, if anyone is anticipating that this visit would revolve around politics, you will be disappointed.”
The Governor, Minister proceeded to a closed- door meeting to discuss modalities for the partnership and other issues.
