The leadership of the Supreme Council of Islamic Preachers in Nigeria, Southwest zone, on Wednesday, presented an Excellent Outstanding Award of Islam to the Deputy Governor of Oyo state, Alhaji Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal for his strives towards the development of Islam in Oyo state.
The Islamic preachers’ delegates from the six southwest states of Nigeria presented the deputy governor with the award during a conference held at the Carlton Gate Hotel in Ibadan.
While describing him as the the best-performing Muslim deputy governor in the Southwest, the group noted that the deputy governor’s excellent work on Islamic affairs was the reason for the exceptional award.
The apex Muslim preachers’ group said Barrister Lawal has demonstrated commitment to advancement of islam in the state, saying his performances blazed the trail in the South West since his appointment as deputy governor of Oyo state.
The delegates however expressed their profound satisfaction with the deputy governor’s performance, stating that it surpassed all other deputy governors in the southwest.
It also emphasised that Barrister Lawal has been the most effective deputy governor Oyo state has ever had, and that his contributions to humanity and society are unparalleled.
The council prayed that the deputy governor and his boss, Seyi Makinde, would always have a cordial relationship and sought wisdom for both of them to lead the state’s affairs.
Expressing his gratitude, the deputy governor, who was represented by the commissioner for education, Professor Abdulwaheed Solihu commended the organisation for inviting him to the maiden edition of their programme and his contemporary with the prestigious award.
He noted that it is a thing of joy that the body is conceptualized and birthed for the main purpose of educating the Ummah and more importantly to
promote peaceful co-existence among Muslims and adherents of other religions.
“You will all appreciate the fact that Islam stands for peace and anything besides peace is abhorred by Islam.
“We should strive at all times to ensure that peace reigns supreme in our state, the South Western part of Nigeria and the entire country. It is a duty we must pursue. Education is a sine qua non for better understanding of our religion-Islam. In this wise, I implore you to use your group to impact knowledge on our brothers and sisters.
“Islam is highly misunderstood because of lack of adequate knowledge. This misunderstanding must
be corrected and Islam presented is true perspective.
“Prayer is said to be the sword of Believers. I want to urge you not to relent in your prayers for the Ummah, the state, the south west and the country at large. May I use this opportunity to intimate you with the fact that the administration of Gov. Seyi Makinde will continue to give every religion its due in the state. No religion will enjoy preferential treatment as we shall be fair to all”, he said.
