….Commends Oyo Govt over a two-day retreat for council officials
The Executive Chairman of Oorelope Local Government, Mr. Akeem Adepoju Raheem, has maintained that the local government will work on its areas of comparative advantage including agriculture and commerce to expand its economy.
He stated that the local government has begun efforts to leverage on its opportunities in the agriculture sector, adding that adequate attention will also be given to the Owode Market and all other markets that attract traders from all over the country.
Raheem, who stated these while speaking with newsmen shortly after a two-day retreat organised by the Oyo State government, said his administration will key into the overall economic expansion agenda of Governor Seyi Makinde to develop Oorelope and reposition it.
The chairman equally commended the state government for organising the retreat for chairmen, vice chairmen and Heads of Local Government Administration, noting that the sessions were robust, enriching and deeply impacting and that the lessons and experiences gained will help local government administrators to key into the agenda of the governor.
According to Raheem, who also partook in the novelty match between chairmen and vice chairmen, in which the chairmen went away with a 3 nil victory, the overall experience at the retreat held in Ilaji Hotels and Sport Resort would help the local government officials.
“As you might have been aware, we just concluded a two-day retreat organised by the state government for chairmen, vice chairmen and HLAs.
“One of the major highlights of the retreat was the speech of His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, in which he admonished council chairmen to step up to the table on security.
“He also charged us to adopt the four pillars of the state government and the templates that have worked so well for the state in the last two years, while he also said we have the liberty to act based on peculiarities in our individual councils.
“In Oorelope, as you may be aware, our comparative advantages are in agriculture and commerce, as Owode International Market ranks among the topmost markets in the state.
“We have already put programmes in place to leverage on the opportunities available in this two areas to develop our local government.
“Overall, I want to appreciate the governor and all the organisers and facilitators of the retreat; the platform provided us with knowledge and experiences that will bring about accelerated developments at the grassroots.”
