‎2027: After 8 Years of Makinde, It Is the Turn of a Muslim to Lead Oyo — Mogaji Abass Oloko

‎A prominent political leader in Oyo State and respected traditional chief in Ibadanland, Mogaji Abass Oloko, has declared that after the completion of Governor Seyi Makinde’s eight-year administration in 2027, it is only fair and politically right for a Muslim to emerge as the next governor of Oyo State.
    ‎
‎Speaking on the growing conversations surrounding the 2027 governorship race, Mogaji Oloko, in a Statement made available to journalists on Wednesday, called for a balanced, inclusive, and pragmatic approach in selecting the next leader of the state.
    ‎
‎According to him, Oyo State’s religious diversity makes fairness, representation, and sensitivity to public sentiment important factors that political parties must not ignore if they hope to maintain peace, unity, and electoral success.
    ‎
‎He noted that Governor Seyi Makinde, a Christian, would by 2027 have completed two terms in office, adding that the principle of equity naturally suggests that power should shift to a qualified Muslim successor.
    ‎
‎Mogaji Oloko explained that religion has historically played a significant role in electoral politics across Nigeria, especially in the South-West where Islam and Christianity enjoy strong followership.
    ‎
‎He stated further that “Politics is about numbers, inclusion, and understanding the realities of society. In a state like Oyo, where both Muslims and Christians are well represented, leaders must always consider balance when making major political decisions.”
    ‎
‎Mogaji Oloko said after eight years of Governor Seyi Makinde, who is a Christian, it will be just, fair, and reasonable for a Muslim to succeed him as governor of Oyo State.
    ‎
‎”Governor Makinde has demonstrated that Christians in leadership have continued to contribute meaningfully to the growth and progress of Oyo State. His administration has delivered notable achievements in infrastructure, education, security, and economic development, earning commendation across religious and political lines.”
    ‎
‎”We must also acknowledge the peaceful coexistence Christians have promoted in Oyo State over the years. Their support for unity, tolerance, and development has strengthened the social fabric of our dear state, while Governor Makinde’s leadership remains a clear example of service above religious identity.”
    ‎
‎The prominent traditional Chief maintained that this is not about division or sentiment alone; it is about equity, political stability, and respecting the diversity of our people.
    ‎
‎”Oyo State has enjoyed peaceful coexistence because our people understand fairness. Any political party that ignores this reality does so at its own risk.”
    ‎
‎He noted that Oyo State has many competent, educated, experienced, and capable Muslims across Oyo State who can govern excellently and continue the developmental strides of the present administration.
    ‎
‎He said Leadership should be based on competence, fairness, and acceptability.
    ‎
‎”Fortunately, Oyo State is blessed with credible Muslim personalities across all zones who possess the experience and capacity to govern successfully.”
    ‎
‎Mogaji Abass Oloko further stressed that his position should not be misconstrued as religious bias, insisting that his call is rooted in political reality, justice, and the need to sustain harmony in the state.
    ‎
‎He urged political leaders, party stakeholders, and voters to begin serious consultations toward ensuring a peaceful transition that reflects fairness and competence.
