The 2027 governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oyo State, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, has assured residents that his ambition to govern the state is anchored on competence, experience and a commitment to the overall interest of the people.

Adekanmbi stated this while featuring on the Morning Show programme of Arise Television, where he discussed his political ambition, governance experience and his vision for Oyo State ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The former Commissioner for Finance in Oyo State also addressed questions surrounding his political relationship with Governor Seyi Makinde and the possibility of continuity in the administration’s development agenda.

Responding to questions bothering on him becoming a stooge to Governor Seyi Makinde should he become elected as Governor, Hon Adekanmbi emphasized that even Governor Seyi Makinde would not tolerate him becoming his stooge and has repeatedly urged him to chart his own path.

He said “Recently Governor Makinde cautioned residents to build personal relationships with me, as he would not play the role of prevailing on me unnecessarily. I have also personally built relationships and robust networks with the people across various regions of the state, so if you ask me, I think I would be a stooge to the over 7.5 million people of Oyo state”

Adekanmbi, who has been presented by the APM as its candidate for the 2027 governorship election, said his experience in government had exposed him to the opportunities and challenges confronting the state.

He recalled “I have a robust relationship with all previous governors of Oyo state and I have been fortunate to drink from their wealth of experiences.

The have also shared with me some of their visions for the state and some of their regrets, starting from the Great Lam, Senator Ladoja, Kabiyesi Olubadan, then Governor Akala and more engaging was Governor Ajimobi

I tell you, for almost 1 year of the Governor Ajimobi second term, after he dissolved his cabinet and I was recalled three days later, I ran the backdrop of the administration effectively”

He stressed the need for continuity in areas where government policies and projects were producing positive results, while also emphasising the importance of improving areas requiring better attention.

The APM candidate said his understanding of governance was based on practical experience rather than political rhetoric, having served in different capacities in government.

Adekanmbi emerged as the APM’s consensus governorship candidate in May 2026 and has subsequently embarked on statewide engagements with party stakeholders and residents ahead of the election.
