Governor Seyi Makinde has urged traditional rulers to remain apolitical and serve as fathers to all, warning that any monarch who openly backs a political party or candidate risks being dragged into partisan conflict.
Governor Makinde gave the charge at the commissioning of reconstructed Eleruwa Palace and conferment of chieftaincy titles on him and his wife, Engineer Tamunominini Makinde by the Eleruwa of Eruwa.
The Governor, who hinted that he would campaign vigorously for his presidential bid across the country, said traditional rulers ought to accommodate every candidate who seeks royal blessings and support, not to have favorite.
While appreciating traditional Council in Eruwa and Ibarapaland for honouring him and his wife, as Ààrẹ Asọ̀lúdẹ̀rọ̀ and Yèyé-Ààrẹ Asọ̀lúdẹ̀rọ̀ of Ibarapaland, described the titles as recognition that came with responsibilities.
The Speaker, Oyo State Assembly, Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin, in his appreciation message, appreciated inner roads project in Ibarapaland, adding that Legislators are committed to supporting both government and traditional institutions to drive development and improve the quality of life of residents.
