The Peoples Democratic Party National Rebranding Forum, along with the National Convener of Progressives Youths, has emphasized the importance of Oyo State Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde running for the presidential election in 2027 under the party’s platform. Nigerian Tribune reports.

They believe this move is essential to address the various challenges facing the nation.

In a letter addressed to Governor Makinde, Prince Christopher Odianerewo, the National Secretary and Head of the Media Team for the group, urged him to consider the pleas of the struggling masses.

He highlighted the prevailing hunger in the country, which he attributed to the poor economic policies of the All Progressives Congress-led administration.

The group noted that the nation’s democracy is on the brink of total collapse, adding that the only way out is for leaders like Makinde to assist in this regard.

The letter read in part, “Our nation’s democracy teeters on the edge of total collapse, and our economy is rapidly dwindling due to, what we perceive as, flawed policies.

“The security situation has worsened to an alarming degree, with terrorists reportedly controlling some local government areas in the north. Food insecurity is rampant, exacerbated by the continuous killings of innocent people by unscrupulous elements.

“The rate at which medical personnel are leaving the country (“japa”) is deeply alarming and worrisome. Foreign investors have fled due to perceived harsh policies on foreign investments. The academia is no longer enviable due to very poor funding.

“The Foreign Exchange market is allegedly plagued with frivolities, as the Naira continues to weaken by the day. Nigeria belongs to us all, and we can no longer sit back and allow, what we believe to be, wicked elements to ruin our dear country in the name of politics.

“We have observed your developmental strides in Oyo State with great interest. You have, in our opinion, reshaped Oyo State, and your human-friendly economic policies have brought smiles to the faces of its people. Immediately upon being sworn in as Governor of Oyo State in 2019, you reportedly hit the ground running with a strategic implementation of a robust economic plan. The past six years have been characterized by continuous improvement and developmental engagements in Oyo State. You are, by all accounts, well-loved because of your performance. You have indeed made Oyo better.

“We, in the PDP National Rebranding Forum and the Progressive Youths for Makinde’s Presidency 2027, have conducted extensive research to identify who we strongly believe can save our dear country from the oppression we are currently battling, orchestrated, by the APC-led federal government since 2015. The result of our survey was a near-unanimous decision by Nigerians that you should contest for the Presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria come 2027.

“We, as Nigerians, are truly tired of these avoidable pains caused by the APC government. We need to take back our country. H.E. Sir, we strongly believe you will receive the needed support from all, as your tremendous performance in Oyo State will speak for you. We shall support you wholeheartedly once you accept the call by Nigerians to save Nigeria”.
