2027: Retired DSP Decries ‘Persistent Exclusion’ of Awe Town from Political Consideration, Patronage in Afijio LG

A retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Mr. Yinka Gbenga Olaopa, has called on political leaders and relevant authorities in Afijio Local Government Area to address what he described as the growing marginalization of Awe community in the council area.

Olaopa, who identified himself as a concerned citizen and Vice Chairman of the Awe Youth Committee (Home & Abroad), made the appeal in a statement issued to draw attention to what he termed “persistent exclusion and inequitable development” affecting Awe in Oyo State.

He emphasized that his position was non-partisan and not influenced by any political affiliation, but rather driven by a desire for fairness, justice, and balanced development across all communities in the local government.

According to him, Awe has consistently contributed to the political and socio-economic development of Afijio through peaceful conduct, civic responsibility, and active participation in electoral processes, irrespective of party lines. However, he lamented that the community has continued to experience limited representation in key political appointments and insufficient access to government projects.

Olaopa noted that development should not be selective, stressing that infrastructure, social amenities, and government presence must be fairly distributed. He expressed concern that residents of Awe feel underserved in areas such as road construction, healthcare facilities, educational support, and other critical projects that enhance quality of life.

“Political inclusion is equally important,” he stated, adding that representation in decision-making positions ensures that the needs and aspirations of a community are properly articulated and addressed. He warned that consistent underrepresentation could widen the gap between the people and government, leading to frustration and erosion of public trust.

While reaffirming Awe’s commitment to peace and progress, the retired police officer clarified that the community is not seeking undue advantage but fairness and recognition of its contributions to the growth of Afijio.

He therefore urged authorities and stakeholders to ensure equitable distribution of political appointments, prioritize developmental projects in underserved areas, engage community representatives in dialogue, and promote transparency in governance regardless of political considerations.
Olaopa maintained that Awe remains an integral part of Afijio Local Government and that its development is crucial to the overall progress and unity of the council area.

He expressed hope that the appeal would receive the attention it deserves in the interest of justice, peace, and sustainable development.
