2027: “Unity Forum” Will Emerge in Oyo PDP Over Makinde’s Choice of Successor, We Are Battle Ready – Party Chieftain
Criticisms have continued to trail the remarks made by Governor Seyi Makinde on Thursday claiming he will have a say in who will succeed him in 2027, when his tenure ends. Makinde said:
“It has taken almost a year to get here but I still have two years and seven months left.
“Those who are campaigning to be the next governor would still have to wait because I will be here till May 29th, 2027.
“And I will also have a say in who is going to become the next Governor.
“I may not have my way because it is Oyo State people that will decide but I will have a say, especially for those in the PDP. They have me to contend with. I am still the one controlling the structure.”
Makinde made the above remarks while receiving the report of the Committee on Review and Update of Public Service Rules and Other Regulations in the State Civil/Public Service.
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who spoke on condition of anonymity said his fellow party leaders have been studying the body language of Governor Seyi Makinde.
“Let me tell you, there will be alignment and realignment of like minds after the party’s congresses in 2025.
“We are ready to form Unity Forum similar group to that of Oyo APC in 2018 where some influential members left the party for ADC.
“Governor Seyi Makinde is our leader, we can’t fight with him but we are appealing that he should create a level playing field for all aspirants to test their acceptability among the electorates during the party primary.
“Our Governor will have his say and way but we the politicians will decide the final fate of whoever he supports.
“Governor Seyi Makinde has done well for Oyo State and PDP stands a chance to retain the Pacesetter State beyond 2027 on the condition that the party presents a formidable candidate.
