The first phase of the stage in determining the next One-Day House of Representatives Member for Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North has been conducted.

One-Day Rep Member is an initiative of Hon. Dr. Anthony Adebayo Adepoju and is geared towards engaging young minds with the aim of producing future legislators from the federal constituency; raising the hopes of children to become successful irrespective of their socio-economic status; incorporating youth-driven initiatives that were previously side-lined and producing intellectually minded young leaders for the development of the constituency.

The aptitude test, which was held across the constituency on Saturday, July 4, 2026, saw various students from each of the five communities emerge for the next phase of the initiative. In the examination, the students were tested on Mathematics, English Language and General Knowledge (Know Your Constituency), with each question carrying equal marks.

In Igbo-Ora, four students from Favourland College qualified for the next phase of the initiative, two students from Hopecrest College, two students from Igbo-Ora High School and one student each from both Oyo State School of Science and Igbo-Ora Grammar School. Each town was supposed to produce 10 candidates, whereas only Igbo-Ora and Igangan were able to produce 10 candidates for the next stage while Idere, Ayete and Tapa Conmunities produced six, four and five candidates respectively.

In Idere, two students emerged from Okedere High School, two from Hopecrest College and two from Ayelogun Grammar School.

In Ayete, four students emerged for the next phase of the initiative, the top performing student in the community comes from Favourland College, Igbo-Ora, one student from Goodnews College, one from Ayete Grammar School and one from Angels Height College.

In Tapa, five students proceeded to the next phase of the initiative. Two students emerged from Maku Grammar School, one each from Jubilant Islamic Model College, Goodnews College and Tapa Community High School.

In Igangan, 10 students earned their spot at the next phase of the initiative, five students emerged from Royal Diadem College, two from Success Muslim College, one each from His Mercy College, Maja Academy and Better Way Academy.

By how each community performed in the exercise, Igbo-Ora came first with 36% (9/25), Idere came second with 32% (8/25), while Ayete and Igangan came third with 28% (7/25) as Tapa Community came fifth with 12% (3/25).

Two individuals disqualified after thorough investigation revealed that they were not qualified to participate in the exercise because they were not in SS3 but took part in the competition, while others were disqualified for their inability to score a single mark in the Aptitude Test.

The test was invigilated by National Youth Service Corps Members and closely monitored by the executive members of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) in collaboration with members of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The topic for the next stage is “BEYOND CAMPAIGN PROMISES: WHAT MAKES AN EFFECTIVE LEGISLATOR.” The essay is expected to be submitted on or before Saturday, July 18, 2026, via https://tinyurl.com/OneDayRep, after which, one student in each community will qualify for the grand finale scheduled to take place on Thursday, July 29, 2026.
