In the wake of the tragic explosions in Bodija, Ibadan, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo state strongly condemns the All Progressives Congress (APC) for their disgraceful attempt to exploit this calamity for political gain.

The statement released by Oyo APC, especially by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, reflects a callous endeavor to play politics with the lives and suffering of the affected people.

It is crucial to emphasize that moments of crisis demand unity and a collective effort to address immediate concerns. Oyo APC’s insinuation that Governor Seyi Makinde failed in the area of security is unfounded and a deliberate distortion of reality. Tragedies of this nature are unpredictable, and it is irresponsible to place blame solely on the state government without concrete evidence.

We commend Governor Seyi Makinde for his steadfast leadership in the face of this tragedy. The governor’s swift response, effective coordination of rescue efforts, and commitment to providing support to the affected residents demonstrate a true sense of responsibility and dedication to the well-being of the people.

While Oyo APC attempts to cast doubt on the state government’s response, it is important to note that Governor Makinde’s administration has shown resilience in managing the crisis.

The collaborative efforts between state and federal authorities during this challenging time have been commendable, reflecting the commitment to the safety and security of the people.

The call for independent investigations is not inherently problematic, but the timing and tone of Oyo APC’s demand raise serious concerns about their intentions. This is not the time for political posturing; it is a time for unity and support for the affected families.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo state extends heartfelt condolences to all those affected by this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost loved ones and those facing hardships in the aftermath of this devastating incident.

Finally, the PDP in Oyo state condemns in the strongest terms Oyo APC’s disgraceful attempt to politicize the tragedy in Bodija. We call on Oyo APC to rise above petty politics and join hands with the state government in providing relief and assistance to those affected. Exploiting the pain of the people for political gain is a new low, even for Oyo APC, and it is a shameful display of their lack of empathy and moral compass.
