Hon. Ramata Agberemi Dabo (RAD), Senior Special Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, has convened a meeting hosted by the First Lady of Oyo State, Engr. Tamunominini Makinde, in a significant move aimed at enhancing grassroots advocacy and community development,
The event brought together the wives of the 33 local government chairmen in Oyo State, marking a pivotal moment for women’s engagement in local governance.
During the meeting, key discussions focused on unity among the women stakeholders and strategies for adding value to their respective communities.
While speaking, Hon. RAD emphasised the importance of collective action, urging the women to return to their local governments, committed to strengthening grassroots connections.
“We deliberated on how we can all come together as one body,” she stated
Hon RAD highlighted the necessity of using their collective voices to mend differences and build bridges within their communities.
She said the First Lady, Engr. Makinde, played a crucial role in mentoring the participants, encouraging them to support their husbands, (local government chairmen) in enhancing their effectiveness.
“We discussed how the wives can be more active at ward and constituency meetings, using their presence to strengthen ties with the people at the grassroots level,” Hon. RAD added.
The meeting also served as a platform to appreciate the First Lady’s commitment to empowering women in Oyo State.
“Her Excellency Engr Tamunominini Makinde encouraged and mentored us, providing invaluable support,” Hon RAD said.
Hon Comforter, the lawmaker representing Ibadan North Constituency 1 at the Oyo State House of Assembly, expressed gratitude for Mrs Makinde’s unwavering support and efforts to ensure that women’s voices remain prominent in local governance.
Present at the meeting were notable figures, including Hon. Sikiru Sanda, Chairman of Oyo State Local Government Chairmen, Hon. Olajide Comforter, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Ademola Ojo, and Hon. Ademola Ige.
Each official offered words of encouragement, reinforcing the importance of women’s active participation in local governance and community development.
As the women left the meeting, they carried with them a renewed sense of purpose and collaboration, ready to make impactful changes in their local governments.
Hon RAD further expressed her gratitude to Hon Sikiru Sanda Oyedele and Hon Ademola Ige for attending the crucial meeting.
