Member representing Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Federal Constituency, Hon. Dr. Anthony Adebayo Adepoju, has congratulated Professor Peter Olamakinde Olapegba on his assumption of office as the 14th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan.
Hon. Adepoju described the development as a significant feat for the university community and a moment of celebration for Ibarapa Land, which has continued to produce distinguished personalities across various fields of human endeavour.
The lawmaker said Professor Olapegba’s emergence reflects the importance of academic excellence, dedication and sustained contributions to knowledge in building reputable institutions.
He noted that the University of Ibadan occupies a strategic position in Nigeria’s educational landscape, having remained a major centre for intellectual development, research and the training of generations of leaders.
Ibarapakan expressed confidence that the new Vice-Chancellor would bring his wealth of experience to bear on the administration of the institution, especially in strengthening its academic standards, research capacity and international standing.
He also described the appointment as an encouragement to younger generations from Ibarapa, urging them to embrace education, discipline and purposeful ambition as pathways to leadership and meaningful contributions to society.
According to the federal lawmaker, the achievements of distinguished sons and daughters of Ibarapa should inspire young people to pursue excellence and recognise that their backgrounds should never constitute barriers to attaining positions of responsibility.
The Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Federal Character, however, wished Professor Olapegba a successful tenure, expressing hope that his administration would usher in another remarkable chapter in the history of the University of Ibadan.
