The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo state has organized a special interfaith prayer session to honor the late Engineer Sunday Makinde and for Governor Seyi Makinde and his family.

The event, held yesterday at the Oluyole LG Secretariat, Idi-Ayunre, Ibadan, brought together religious leaders, party members, and community stakeholders from the three major faiths; Christians, Muslims, and African Traditional worshippers.

Engineer Sunday Makinde, who passed away on January 24, 2025, at the age of 65, was the elder brother of Governor Seyi Makinde.

The prayer session featured both Islamic and Christian clerics, reflecting the state’s commitment to interfaith harmony. They equally offered prayers for the peaceful repose of the deceased and for strength and comfort for the bereaved family.

Mogaji Akeem Ayelaagbe led the Muslim prayer while Christian prayer was led by Apostle Major Kayode.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Akeem Olatunji, emphasized the importance of unity and compassion during times of grief.

He stated, “In moments like this, it is essential for us to come together, irrespective of our religious affiliations, to support one another. Our thoughts and prayers are with Governor Makinde and his family.”

The PDP at the national level also extended its condolences to Governor Makinde. In a statement, the party described the late Engineer Sunday Makinde as “a humble, exceptionally brilliant, and highly ingenious professional; a committed patriot who dedicated his life to the progress and development of Oyo State and Nigeria.”

Community leaders, including the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Olushola Alao, and the Oyo State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Otunba Ademola Ojo, also conveyed their sympathies. They lauded the late engineer’s contributions to the development of Ibadanland and Oyo State, highlighting his integrity, humility, and dedication to community service.

Some of the notable party stalwarts present at the special prayer session were the party LG chairman, Alhaji Mukaila Adegbola alongside his excos and ward executive members, members of the Oluyole Legislative House, Hon. Depo Oyedokun, ex House of Reps member, former member of Oyo House of Assembly, Hon. Lukman SALAU and other PDP leaders.
