Turaki-led PDP not holding congress in South West – Official

The Peoples Democratic Party in the South West has denied scheduling any congress in the zone.

PDP Southwest Zonal Publicity Secretary, Sanya Atofarati, described as “false and mischievous” claims that congresses had been planned in the Southwest states.

In a statement in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State on Tuesday, Atofarati urged the public and party members to disregard reports of any congress in the region, saying, “At no time has the party approved or announced any state congress in the South West.”

The statement was issued in reaction to circulating claims and timetables regarding planned PDP congresses in the South West states.

Following a leadership crisis, the PDP had split into two factions, with Samuel Anyanwu leading one group and Taminu Turaki SAN heading the other.

Atofarati stated that most South West states did not require a congress, explaining, “Five of the six South West states have duly elected and legally constituted state executives.

“The only exception is Osun State, where a Caretaker Committee was validly appointed by the National Working Committee in January 2026.”

He further urged the public and loyal members to disregard what he called a “sham timetable” being circulated by expelled individuals who lack legitimacy and moral standing.

“Having been lawfully removed by the national convention, the party’s highest decision-making organ, their desperate bid to cause confusion will fail,” Atofarati said.

Under the leadership of National Chairman Taminu Turaki, the publicity secretary emphasised, the PDP remains focused on rebuilding the party on discipline, unity, and internal democracy.

“We call on all committed members across the Southwest to troop out en masse to their wards and local government areas for the ongoing membership registration and validation exercise.

“This is vital to strengthening our structures and preparing for the democratic tasks ahead,” he added.
