Residents across several communities in Akinyele Constituency 2 of Oyo State have commended the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) candidate for the State House of Assembly, Olalere Solomon also known as Ere, following the installation of solar-powered streetlights in different parts of the constituency.
The solar streetlight projects, executed in communities including Kajorepo/Akobo, Tinuoye, Abatakan Spare Parts, Motunde, Akinkunmi in Iroko, Isale Ojo, Akuro Ward 10, STRABAG, Olosoko 2, Asiwaju Olosoko, Agbekoya Aba Eja, Aba Eko Village, Akuro Zone B and Idiori Zone, are expected to improve security, enhance night-time commercial activities and make the roads safer for residents.
Community members said the intervention has transformed several previously dark areas, reducing security concerns while creating a more conducive environment for businesses and social activities after dusk.
They noted that the solar-powered streetlights would also improve visibility for motorists and pedestrians, especially in communities that have experienced inadequate public lighting for years.
A resident of Akuro, Mr. Adewale Akinyemi, described the project as a significant boost to community development.
”These solar streetlights have completely changed our environment. Before now, many people avoided moving around at night because of darkness and security concerns. Today, our streets are brighter and safer. We appreciate this thoughtful intervention,” he said.
Similarly, a trader at Abatakan Spare Parts Market, Mrs. Bose Adeyemi, said the installation of the lights has extended business hours and increased customers’ confidence in visiting the area at night.
”This project has made a huge difference. We can now carry out our businesses into the evening without fear. It is a project that benefits everyone, and we are grateful for this gesture,” she said.
Residents described the solar streetlight installations as evidence of Olalere Solomon’s commitment to grassroots development, noting that the projects have positively impacted several communities across the constituency.
They urged other political leaders to prioritise initiatives that directly improve the welfare of the people.
The beneficiaries also pledged their support for the APM candidate ahead of the 2027 general election, expressing confidence that his commitment to community development and provision of basic infrastructure would translate into effective representation if elected to the Oyo State House of Assembly.
