The debate over financial hardship among people working within the Oyo State Government has taken a new turn, following an appeal by ad-hoc staff members of the Oyo State Board of Internal Revenue for an improvement in their monthly earnings of ₦29,000.
    ‎
‎The appeal comes amid a controversy sparked by Ibadan Mogaji and politician, Chief Abass Oloko, who recently alleged that some political appointees in Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration were struggling financially despite holding public offices.
    ‎
‎Oloko’s claims have drawn reactions from supporters of the administration, further fuelling discussions about the welfare of those serving in government.
    ‎
‎To this end, the ad-hoc staff members of the Oyo State Board of Internal Revenue are now asking Makinde to intervene in their situation, saying their current pay has become increasingly difficult to survive on amid rising living costs and the prevailing economic hardship in the country.
    ‎
‎Speaking with Goalpoachernews, under the condition of anonymity, a representatives of the affected workers appealed to the governor over their monthly earnings, describing the amount as meagre in the face of current economic realities.
    ‎
‎“we are chatting you on behalf of the ad-hoc staff of Oyo State Board of Internal Revenue concerning the meagre salary we’re still getting per month, sir,” the representative said in a message appealing for government intervention.
    ‎
‎The representative added, “We’re still receiving ₦29,000 per month even with the current hardship of the country.”

The workers urged Makinde to consider their plight and take urgent steps to review their remuneration, arguing that their current earnings were inadequate to meet basic needs amid rising costs of living.
    ‎
‎Although the staff members’ appeal relates specifically to the remuneration of ad-hoc workers rather than political appointees, yet, it has brought another dimension to the ongoing conversation about financial welfare within the state’s public sector.
    ‎
‎As at the time of filing this report.
‎the state government had yet to respond as the Chairman of the Board, Mr Awakan couldn’t be reached.
